Henkel buys Gillette deodorant products

German consumer products company Henkel announced it has bought certain products from Gillette for $420 million. The sell-off is mandated by US antitrust regulators, as a part of the Gillette takeover by Procter &
Gamble.

Henkel's US division, the Dial company, will gain the rights to sell Right Guard deodorant, along with lesser deodorant brands Soft &
Dri and Dry Idea. Procter & Gamble retains its Old Spice, Tag, Sure, and Secret deodorant brands. Old Spice is the #1 US deodorant brand, while Right Guard is #2.The deal will make Henkel the #3 player in deodorants in the US market, after P&G and Unilever. It also strengthens Henkel's presence in the personal care industry and its presence in the US market.

Henkel acquired US-based Dial for $2.9 billion last year. It is reportedly trying to sell off Dial's food business, which includes Armour canned meat, Appian Way pizza, and Cream Corn Starch, but so far without success. Henkel has no other food products.
