How bad is the M & A market?
No surprise here, but according to the financial Times today ("M&A market takes a tumble", 9/27/07) "The volume of deals worldwide fell 42 per cent to $1,000bn during the third quarter, compared with the $1,740bn announced in the previous quarter, Dealogic, the financial data provider, said."
The collapse of the leveraged buy-out market is blamed in the article, shown by the fact that over $400 billion in deals remains in limbo due to problems in coming up with the funding.
And who will be the big victims? "The slowdown is expected to hit the year-end bonus pool at investment banks. Compensation experts predict they could be down by as much as 10-15 per cent across the board."
Boo-hoo.
